Peat Augers
Hand augers for sampling peat
Different types of hand augers are used for peaty soils. The most popular are the gouge augers; long, semi cylindrical chambers which are pushed into the soil, twisted and recovered to display a full and virtually undisturbed profile of your peaty soil. Gouge augers are available in three diameters and three lengths. In common with all hand augers they are available as single models or as two parts which can take extension rods. The other popular sampler is the peat auger; sometimes called a Russian sampler or corer. These samplers are inserted in the soil in a closed position down to the desired sampling level and then twisted so that the sample is trapped in the chamber.
